Tommie Burke focuses her practice in the areas of family law, including work as Guardian Ad Litem, mediator, referee and advocate and administrative law including professional licensing and adoption law.
Tommie received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law in 1990. She graduated in 1985 from the Marymount Manhattan College, New York, NY with a B.A. in Psychology, and received her R.N. from Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing New York, NY in 1972.
Before Tommie joined Brown & Burke in 1995 as Partner, she was an Associate with a Portland Litigation firm where she focused her practice on insurance defense, medical malpractice, worker's compensation and family law. Tommie's more than fifteen years as a Registered Nurse continues to greatly enhance her ability to provide excellent client service in every aspect of her practice.
An adept writer and presenter, Tommie published and presented numerous papers while acting as a Clinical Research Nurse at Memorial Hospital/Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
A resident of Portland and Georgetown, Tommie is a member of the Board of Directors of Kids First, member of the Advisory Board of the Portland Ballet and is a former member and past president of the University of Maine School of Law Alumnae Association. Tommie especially values the time she spends with her husband, whether they be traveling in Southern France, or kayaking along the Maine coast. She also loves her yearly role as "Granny" in the Portland Ballet Nutcracker.
